Installation Overview

Flexayurts are designed for rapid installation and removal with minimal terrain preparation. They need not be anchored to the ground unless protection is desired from high winds, earth movement, or unauthorized removal.

Basic installation steps follow, including typical process times for two-person assembly. Assembly may be performed much faster with four people.

  • Deliver each Flexayurt to its desired location, via pick-up truck, hand carry from container, or tow behind draft animal (Time 0).
  • Unfold hinged wall system into rough hexagonal shape in desired installation location and connect last wall seam (5 minutes).
  • Insert floor risers to constrain hexagonal wall system shape (5 minutes), install ground anchors if desired (10-30 minutes), and insert floor panels (5 minutes).
  • Unfold hinged roof, connect last roof seam, and install roof-peak ventilator (5 minutes).
  • Lift completed roof over wall assembly, place roof on walls, and clamp roof onto walls (5 minutes). Basic shelter installation is now complete in under an hour.
  • Add external auxiliary ground anchors if desired for additional hurricane protection (10-30 minutes)
  • Clip electrical system components and cabling to interior walls and ceiling, then connect electrical system to roof-mounted solar panels (10 minutes).
  • Install heater or AC unit if needed (15 minutes).
  • Install interior furnishings such as our standalone flat-pack slotted furniture or integrated wall modules (10-30 minutes). Fully-outfitted shelter is now complete.

To deinstall a Flexayurt, the above steps are followed in reverse, with even less time required for each step.
