In simple terms, each Flexayurt is designed like a folding Thermos container for humans. They enhance energy self-sufficiency in multiple ways; primarily by controlling all three components of thermal transfer (conduction, convection, and radiation) at all exterior envelope locations (walls, roof, floor). Key technical performance capabilities of the base product include:

Strong Folding Structure:
Our unique room shape resists extremely high wind loads and snow loads compared to conventional rectangular building structures, yet folds up into two accordions for rapid palletized deployment.

Rugged Composite Panel Construction:
Wall, roof, and floor panels are made from industrial-strength honeycomb cores with fiber-reinforced skins, the same material used in air cargo containers that must resist forklift tine impacts.

Extreme Insulation:
R5 conductive insulation plus inner and outer radiant barriers provide the equivalent of R15+ overall insulating performance by rejecting solar radiation and preserving interior heat.

Controlled Ventilation: Unique bi-directional automated ventilator controls infiltration heat gain/loss, using the earth below the floor as a thermal bank and the air in the attic space as a thermal buffer.

Efficient Power:
Complete roof-integrated solar system powers the ventilator, LED lighting, smoke/CO/CO2 sensors & alarms, and a charging station for personal electronic devices.

The result is a complete shelter system, not just a thin shell. Flexayurts go up fast like tents, withstand more wind than trailers, remain comfortable in 100 degree desert heat without air conditioning, and cut arctic heating costs 5x or more.  And that’s before we even outfit them with our reconfigurable flat-pack furnishings and self-sufficient utility options.
